Student Life

School Framework

All students can learn at high levels and our role is to ensure the right degree of support and adjustment for every child to succeed.

Through our School Framework, we ensure that every student is learning in their ‘stretch zone’ with learning that is just right. Tier 1 identifies the elements of cultural and academic life at Brighton High School for all students. At Tier 2 and 3 we provide increasing levels of program intensity, educator support and family involvement to ensure success for all students regardless of starting point.

Enrolment

Brighton High School is open for enrolments in Year 7 and Year 11 for 2025. We are the local school for families living within the Brighton Primary School, Bagdad Primary School, and Kempton Primary School intake areas. Please see the link below for more detailed in-area information. Brighton High School is not currently taking out-of-area enrolments.

Intake Areas for Tasmanian Government Schools

A detailed transition program for 2026 Year 7s and Year 11s will begin during Term 1, 2025 and will be communicated through our feeder primary schools and Brighton High School social media.

School Uniform

At Brighton High School our uniform represents pride in ourselves and our school and promotes a shared sense of school identity and belonging. We support students wearing the items of school uniform that most enable comfort for each individual student, and our uniform ensures students are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities.

'the Expedition' is an artwork displayed in the school, and builds upon the school design motif of the river, representing the voyage through different year level identities. It's bright blues, greens, red and ochres show a connection to the land and surrounding areas.

The Expedition

At Brighton High School, story anchors the organisation and journey of learning. 'The Expedition' builds upon the school design motif of the river, representing the voyage through different year-level identities. Key events, curriculum design, and experiences connect to the unique identity of each year, providing a sense of purposeful navigation and cadence to the years of secondary school. This visual story shows our primary school tributaries that make up our school community and that, year-on-year, students make their way towards the river mouth and on to their wide possibilities for ‘Bright Lives. Positive Futures.’ (DECYP Strategic Plan 2024-2030).

Transportation

Bus services are provided to Brighton High School by the Department of State Growth with arrival and departure of buses within the school grounds. There is a designated car drop off/pick up zone and car parking available. We also encourage our students to ride to school and have a large, purpose-built, secure bike storage area. Pedestrian refuge crossings from both ends of the school on Elderslie Road, and 40km/h school zone speed limits support students to safely walk to school.

IT Help

At Brighton High School, we believe that all students deserve access to high quality resources for learning. This is why we prioritise school-issued laptops for all students. Our High Expectations extend to the
responsible transport, storage, care, use and charging of these laptops by students and families. IT support for student laptops is referred through Compass Community teachers. Please see ‘2025 Laptop Program & Agreement’ in Publications, Policies and Reports.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing is the state of thriving and flourishing in the conditions of everyday life. Our School Framework, Learning Design and built environment are all intentionally crafted to foster these key aspects of wellbeing:

  • Belonging is influenced by a complex set of relationships with peers, teachers, families and the broader community, and is associated with positive outcomes for students’ academic achievement and wellbeing.
  • Adult Advocacy is the support students receive from adults in the school who can provide encouragement and who can be turned to for advice.
  • Student Agency is the ability and the will to positively influence their own lives and the world around them.
  • Academic Buoyancy is the ability to overcome setbacks and challenges that are typical of day-to-day school life and continue to grow and achieve.
  • Intervention and referral is available through Compass Community teachers to our Professional Support Team of School Psychologist, Social Worker and School Nurse for point-in-time support and referral through to ongoing therapeutic care as required.
